Holiday Decorating…..the safe way!

 In FIRE ALARM SERVICES

It is that time of year at the office and home to deck the halls! Safety in the workplace is always an employer’s main concern and during the holidays it should be even more of a concern to prevent fire hazards. Fire Ranger has some important fire safety tips:

    1. Be careful not to create obstacles. Have a decorating plan that ensures decorations are only placed in locations away from foot traffic and high enough not to get in anyone’s way. Avoid areas like reception, lobbies, break rooms and hallways, unless decorations can be placed high enough to be safely out of the way. Decorations should never be placed on or obscuring the view of fire alarms, fire extinguishers, hose cabinets or exit signs.
    2. Electrical Caution! During the holidays, string lights and electrical cords are major causes of fires. It is critically important to check for broken or frayed wires and damaged extension cords, to remove them from being used. Never leave cords lying in areas that they could potentially trip others and do not use nails or staples to hang strong lights or attach electric cords. This could cause electric shock. Lastly, do not overload electrical outlets, be sure to spread the load to several outlets, as needed.

Use Common Sense in choosing decorations

  1. Use Common Sense in choosing decorations! Open flame items should not be used! This includes candles and decorations. In fact, wherever possible look for materials that are fire retardant and ensure they do not dangle or hang in places where they can be tripped over. Another safety precaution is to make sure Christmas trees and other tall decorations are stable and cannot be tipped over.
